
Gerard M. Pennington, MDDr. Pennington is the Senior Partner and Medical Director of Hill Country Sports Medicine. After joining the practice in 1992, he became a Team Physician for Texas State University and numerous High Schools in the central Texas area. Before coming to San Marcos, he served with the US Army at which time he completed his Orthopaedic training at Brooke Army Medical Center. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his participation in operation Desert Storm while assigned to the 144th MASH unit stationed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School Of Medicine, and completed his undergraduate degree at Ole Miss where he lettered in football. Dr. Pennington has taken on administrative roles serving as Medical Staff President and Chairman of Credentials at Central Texas Medical Center. Dr. Pennington along with his fellow colleagues, have successfully developed two Ambulatory Surgery Centers, an Imaging Center and other supplemental revenue streams for his practice.
Dr. Pennington obtained his Board Certification in 1992 and successfully completed his recertification process in 2001. He is an active member of many local, state and national medical societies and was voted Best Doctors in 2004 and 2008, a nation peer review survey. Dr. Pennington has been instrumental in bringing Clinical Research to HCSM as a Primary Investigator and Sub-Investigator on numerous orthopaedic studies.
Dr. Pennington along with his wife and two children are active in their church and enjoy camping, skiing, fishing and hunting as a family.
